Major Adesagba Adekoya (retd), the chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), delivered the warning on Friday at his secretariat office in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Adesagba stated, “Using walkways for business is illegal and causes traffic bottlenecks, accidents, and inconvenience for shoppers.”
He listed a number of places where illicit dealing is common, including Samonda, Mokola, and the University of Ibadan area.
He warned that failure to comply would result in fines and court appearances. “Traders are required to relocate to designated market spaces immediately, especially during the festive period.”
In addition to praising OYRTMA’s efforts to enhance public order and road safety, the state government reaffirmed its dedication to modernizing infrastructure and guaranteeing safe travel throughout the state.
