“The fight against corruption has no boundaries or restrictions on accountability. The message stated that prominent people may still be denied US visas even if they commit corruption.

The United States declared in May 2023 that it has taken action to deny visas to those who interfered with the most recent Nigerian general elections.

“The United States is committed to supporting and advancing democracy in Nigeria and around the world,” stated Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a statement posted on the US State Department website. I’m here today to announce that we have taken action to restrict the visas of certain individuals in Nigeria for their efforts to undermine democracy during the country’s 2023 election cycle.
