Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, is setting the record straight. He believes the Afrobeats superstar isn’t just Nigeria’s biggest music act, but its most influential public figure, period.
Speaking in a recent podcast, Asika shared how Davido’s reach goes far beyond streaming numbers and sold-out shows. “I don’t care what anybody says, I think David is the most influential person in Nigeria,” Asika said. “This isn’t something I read about. I’ve seen it happen. I’ve lived it.”
Asika talked about Davido’s rare access to global stars like Chris Brown and Diplo, recalling how only a few people are ever invited to private gatherings and both artists made the cut.
“The only two guys outside the team who’ve been to that house are Diplo and Chris Brown,” he said. “Chris, because that’s David’s guy. Diplo’s my guy — and he lives in Malibu. Davido’s band? Mad influential.”
Davido, whose full name is David Adedeji Adeleke, has mastered the art of brand alignment. From high-end fashion and beverage deals to fintech and charity partnerships, Asika said every move is strategic. “I don’t think there’s a brand working with Davido today that doesn’t fit him,” he said. “If it doesn’t, we make sure it does. It’s intentional.”
