In a July 31, 2025, letter to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Joint Action Committee, which is made up of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non-Academic Staff Union, and the National Association of Academic Technologists, announced the decision.

According to a copy our correspondent saw on Friday, the notification was signed by the chairs of ASUU-LASU, Prof. Ibrahim A. Bakare and Sylvester O. Idowu, PhD, and SSANU-LASU, Oluwaseyi Lawal and Waheed Majekodunmi, respectively.

The statement instructed all employees of the institution and its affiliated campuses, including the Lagos State institution Epe campus and the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, to leave their official positions immediately.

The statement said, “We are writing to inform you that the indefinite strike action has begun at Lagos State University in response to the decision made at the Emergency Congress of the Joint Action Committee of the Lagos State University Staff Unions (ASUU-LASU, SSANU-LASU, NAAT-LASU, and NASU-LASU) that an INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION should begin effective from Thursday, July 31, 2025.”

“Until all of the staff members’ demands are fulfilled by the relevant authorities, the strike action will remain in effect indefinitely.”

As a result, all employees of the University and its affiliated campuses (LASUCOM and LASU Epe Campus) are hereby directed to leave their positions and withdraw their services with immediate effect. “Although we appreciate your kind gesture and unwavering support, please accept the Unions’ warmest regards.”

According to report, varsity students were scheduled to start the 2024–2025 second semester exam on Monday of next week.
