Jerry Gana: “Any Northern candidate will lose to Peter Obi under the PDP in 2027.”

Amid persistent rumors that Obi would rejoin the PDP despite his recent interactions with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gana made the assertion in an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Wednesday.

Obi abandoned the PDP in May 2022 to run for president under the LP. Obi was the Labour Party’s nominee in the 2023 elections.

“The PDP is present.” As a researcher, I study people’s opinions. Because our people are so reasonable and fair-minded, Peter Obi of the PDP will defeat any candidate in the northern states, Gana stated.

He disclosed that attempts to reintegrate Obi into the PDP are still in progress. “We are contacting Peter Obi. Peter might be good, but we have someone better because I’m in charge of a search team with a lot of smart people. Thus, we’re looking,” he declared.

Gana also acknowledged that Obi’s departure from the PDP prior to the 2023 elections was handled improperly. In 2023, we made a mistake. It is now your chance, Peter. I would give you a vice president if I were Atiku, but he didn’t,” he said.

Regarding the recent internal party issues, Gana said they were mostly confined to “a few elites in Abuja” and did not represent the sentiment of the party’s larger national base.  Founded at the grassroots level in 1998, the PDP emerged victorious in the first election in 1999.

They won the House, Senate, and presidency, as well as the majority of local administrations. Nigeria had returned to democracy and civil government under the PDP’s leadership. The party was successful in ending military rule in a democratic manner after a time of it. This was the intention behind the PDP’s “power to the people” motto, and it has remained thus ever since.

The recent problem in Abuja was limited to a small group of elites and did not extend beyond the party’s foundation. People have taken pride in the PDP’s dedication to democracy and civic government.
