Speaking at Birnin Kebbi’s flag-off ceremony, the governor emphasized his administration’s dedication to providing free, high-quality education, characterizing Kebbi as both an agrarian state and “an education state.”
We are seeing more than two million books distributed to elementary and intermediate schools around the state today. This aligns with our objective to reframe education and ensure that all children in Kebbi have access to it,” Idris said.
Textbooks, exercise books, laptops, cars, and motorcycles are among the resources given out with the goal of improving instruction in public schools. The governor went on to emphasize the accomplishments of his administration, including as the building of mega schools throughout the four Emirates, the refurbishment and equipping of more than 2,000 schools, and the N2 billion that was made available to pay registration fees for indigenous students.
In addition, he said that 2,000 teachers would be hired as part of a larger hiring campaign that has hired 5,000 professionals in the last two years, including lawyers and health care providers.
Governor Idris reiterated his dedication to the welfare of educators by recalling that, while serving as NUT president, he led the national effort to raise the retirement age for teachers from 35 to 40 years old. His administration has already domesticated this policy.
The governor revealed that professors of Kebbi descent have been nominated to chair Local Government Education Authorities in an effort to further improve educational standards. They would each receive an official vehicle and additional benefits to improve their performance.
In her remarks, Dr. Halima Bande, the Commissioner for Education, urged teachers and school administrators to maintain the state’s redesigned public education standards and urged stakeholders to utilize the supplied materials effectively.
In the same vein, Hon. Garba Bena, the chairman of the House Committee on Education, noted the swift passage and assent of the Executive Bill on teachers’ service extension and reiterated the legislature’s support for the governor’s educational policy.
Prof. Suleiman Khalid-Jega, Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, called the gesture extraordinary. He mentioned a number of noteworthy accomplishments made under the present administration, such as the building of more than 1,000 classrooms, the drilling of school boreholes, and the supply of technology and software resources to modernize the delivery of education.
Additionally, Khalid-Jega disclosed that N200,000 had been given to each School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) and that more than 18,000 administrators and teachers had received training to improve learning outcomes.
He continued, “It is clear that Governor Idris is establishing a solid educational foundation for future generations, as Kebbi is now surpassing the national average in core subjects like mathematics, English, and basic science.”
