In response, Newcastle have drawn up a shortlist of strikers they believe could fill the void should Isak leave. At the top of that list is Benjamin Šeško of RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old Slovenian scored 21 goals last season and has a growing reputation across Europe. He’s seen as the most like-for-like replacement in terms of profile—tall, quick, technically gifted, and with the potential to lead the line in Eddie Howe’s system. His price tag is estimated to fall within Newcastle’s £70m range, including performance-related add-ons.
Other players under serious consideration include Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who is reportedly eager to move. Newcastle had a £25m bid rejected, but remain hopeful that an improved offer could push the deal over the line. Wissa’s pace and directness make him a useful fit, especially if Newcastle are looking to build a more fluid front three.
Another name in the mix is Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea. The Senegalese striker scored 13 Premier League goals last season and offers versatility, being able to play both centrally and from wide positions. Victor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon has also been linked, having scored prolifically in Portugal. However, his release clause is high, around €75 million, and he’s also on the radar of Manchester United. Loïs Openda, also of Leipzig, is seen as another option, offering a lower fee than Šeško and a more mobile, second-striker profile.
Closer to home, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is viewed as a Premier League-proven option. However, his price would likely exceed £60 million, and Villa are reluctant to sell, especially to a direct rival in the race for European football.
Newcastle’s recruitment strategy remains cautious but proactive. They are clearly not waiting for an official bid for Isak before lining up alternatives, a sign that the club is planning for all outcomes as the transfer window enters its final stretch. With £70 million potentially earmarked for a new striker, the Magpies are determined not to be caught off guard.
