Baba-Ahmed stated that the president should concentrate more on governance and less on political calculations during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday. He pointed out that the electorate will ultimately evaluate him based on how well he performs in office.
“What have you done with the first four years we gave you?” is what Nigerians would ultimately ask, he remarked. “Don’t assume anything about us. If the election is free and fair, we may vote you out. Show us what you’ve accomplished, then.
Baba-Ahmed, who left his position in the government approximately three months ago, made the comments in response to rumors that Vice President Kashim Shettima will be removed as Tinubu’s running mate in 2027.
He criticized the President’s lack of response to the rumors, claiming that if they were really unfounded, Tinubu ought to have personally addressed the matter.
It would have just required the president to say, “Stop this nonsense,” directly and personally, if there was any truth to any of these rumors about the vice president being fired. My vice president is someone I trust. I get along nicely with him. I’m content with him. He added, “And I want this bullshit about me dumping him, now or in the future, to stop.”
Baba-Ahmed asserts that there is cause for mistrust because Tinubu has not made such a statement. That was not said by his people. That wasn’t what he said. Therefore, I would be extremely interested in learning what causes all of these rumors about his being dropped,” he continued.
He emphasized in his conclusion that leadership ought to be quantifiable and accountable. “You will ultimately present it to the electorate as a governance issue. Whatever you believe you have done—all the defections to your party—is irrelevant. Nigerians will make the decision.
