In a public statement, Christian Schertz, Ivanovic’s attorney, announced the split, referring to “irreconcilable differences.”
The well-known pair, who have long been regarded as one of the most identifiable pairs in the sports world, were married in a sumptuous ceremony in Venice in July 2016. They remained together after Schweinsteiger went to Manchester United in 2015, having started dating in 2014 when he was still with Bayern Munich.
After winning 15 WTA titles, including the French Open in 2008, Ivanovic started to wind down her tennis career that same year and retired in December 2016.
Three sons are shared by the couple. The names of their youngest child, who was born less than two years ago, are still unknown, but their first two, Luca and Leon, have been made public.

For months, there had been rumors of marital stress, and in April, it was reported that the pair was experiencing a “deep crisis” as a result of their different lifestyles.

Due to her media and commentary duties, Schweinsteiger frequently needs to travel far, but Ivanovic has apparently been spending more time in her home country of Serbia, where she is supported by her family in Belgrade.

Last September, they made their final public appearance together at the Laver Cup in Berlin. There haven’t been many updates about their family life since they shared a group shot from a Christmas market.
