In a statement to reporters, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, the chairman of the NBA’s Ibadan branch, also called for an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the occurrence, characterizing it as a violation of both human rights and office.

The incident report states that on the night of July 6, 2025, at around 2 a.m., armed police officers led by Inspector Benjamin Alolo raided the community of Mr. Olaniyan, a lawyer with 14 years of post-call experience, brutally assaulted him, stripped him naked, and unlawfully detained him.

According to reports, the neighborhood was invaded by the Inspector and his men in a gestapo-style operation, and the intermittent gunfire sent the locals into a panic. Since he was allegedly beaten on the spot, Mr. Olaniyan’s attempt to explain the validity of the arrests and searches in his capacity as a lawyer was rejected.

According to the statement, all attempts to calm the cops down were ignored, and they continued to make disparaging remarks about lawyers in general. This led to a crisis, and Mr. Olaniyan now has a life-threatening medical condition that needs immediate attention.

The NBA has now urged the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State to launch an official investigation into the matter and make sure that those responsible for the heinous conduct are held accountable.
