The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max are the four next iPhone models that Apple is set to release.
Smaller upgrades to the non-Pro models will include 8GB of RAM and speedier processors, which will support Apple Intelligence and other capabilities.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, which have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens and aluminum casings, will look the same as their predecessors from the previous year.
Along with vertically stacked rear cameras that support spatial video recording—which enables the creation of 3D recordings that can be seen with Apple’s Vision Pro headsets—they will also get the Action button that is already available on the Pro versions.
With one notable exception—the screens on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will now measure 6.3 inches instead of 6.1 inches on the smaller model and 6.9 inches on the Max version—rather than 6.7 inches. Otherwise, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will continue Apple follow the iPhone 15 Pro line design.
Additionally, the Pro versions will have bezels that are now around one-third thinner, giving them a more streamlined appearance overall.
Both Pro models will be compatible with Apple Intelligence, with faster CPUs and an upgraded neural engine with AI optimization, along with 8GB of RAM.
The ultrawide-angle camera will get an update to a 48-megapixel lens from its current 12-megapixel one, matching the megapixel count of the wide-angle regular camera from the previous year’s model.
To mirror the Max model, the smaller iPhone 16 Pro will also include a 5x optical zoom on the telephoto lens, up from a 3x zoom.
Users will be able to snap pictures and films with a dedicated, touch-sensitive button on the right side of the phone, which functions similarly to a DSLR camera’s shutter button.
To replace the mid-range, third-generation model and the entry-level, second-generation earphones, Apple is planning two new variants of AirPods.
Both new models will resemble the AirPods Pro in appearance and come with upgraded audio quality, USB-C charging, and a new case.
The mid-tier model will be similar to the AirPods Pro in noise canceling and have a more luxurious case with a speaker to facilitate finding it using Apple’s Find My function.
Apple is also working on hearing health features, including hearing tests and the potential for AirPods to replace hearing aids, though some features may be delayed. For the first time in two years, Apple is preparing to update all of its Apple Watch models at once, including a new low-end Apple Watch SE, a mid-level Series 10 model, and an Ultra 3. The Apple Watch Ultra will only get minor tweaks, focusing on internal upgrades rather than outside changes. The Series 10 model will feature an updated look, with slightly larger screen-size options and a thinner watch case.
