A man, believed to be in his 30s, allegedly exhibited a mental health episode while disembarking from a Jetstar flight at Melbourne Airport.

The man opened the emergency exit door just as the plane touched down, jumped out, walked onto the aircraft’s wing, and slid down the evacuation slide before being restrained by ground staff. Despite flight attendants’ instructions to sit down, the man paced around, causing a tense atmosphere. The man was arrested and passengers were allowed to exit the plane. A passenger named Adam recalled that the man stood up from his seat, ignoring flight staff’s instructions and appearing to be suffering from a psychotic episode.

He managed to dodge several passengers trying to restrain him and “jump through” the exit door, causing a tense atmosphere. A Jetstar spokesperson confirmed that a passenger opened the emergency exit door after arrival into Melbourne, which automatically deployed the slide. The plane was parked at the gate at a time, and the passenger has been arrested by the Australian Federal Police.
