According to court records, Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20. Lopez’s close friend said that the pair lacked a prenuptial agreement.
The couple had rekindled their romance the year before and was married in July 2022.
In the early 2000s, Lopez and Affleck were courting, but they split up before getting hitched and subsequently parted ways for a protracted 17 years.
The actress was engaged to New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez in 2019 before their breakup in 2021. She was previously married to musician Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014, with whom she has two children.
Lopez has been married four times in total. Actor Jennifer Garner and Affleck were wed during this time, from 2005 to 2018. Together, they are parents to three kids.
Vulture claims that Lopez and Affleck got engaged in November of 2002 after meeting on the “Gigli” shoot.
Twenty years after the initial proposal, Lopez said in April 2022 that she and Affleck were re-engaged. According to court documents, they were married on July 16, 2022, and obtained a marriage license from Clark County, Nevada.
According to Lopez’s fan newsletter, the J Lo, which broke the news shortly after the ceremony, the couple was married in Las Vegas and arrived at the chapel just before midnight to queue up with four other couples.
“We succeeded,” the report stated. “Two males behind us clasped hands and held one another. A young couple from Victorville made the three-hour drive to celebrate their daughter’s second birthday in front of us. We all shared the same goal: for the world to acknowledge us as partners and to publicly express our love through the age-old, almost universal symbol of marriage.”
“It was the best possible wedding we could have imagined,” the couple remarked at the time. One that was real and one that we had long dreamed of.”
As newspapers revealed that the couple hadn’t been spotted together in weeks and that Affleck had moved out of their house before listing it for sale before moving into his own, rumors started to circulate in May that the couple was getting a divorce.
