Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee in Abuja, verified this in a statement released by INEC.According to a report from Prof. Sam Egwu, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue, Olumekun said, the incident happened on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

He claimed that local youngsters protesting against bandit activity in the region set the office on fire.

“The structure has sustained significant damage, even though there were no reported casualties.

According to Olumekun, “the attack destroyed office furniture and other movable and immovable materials, including 10 electric generators, 300 ballot boxes, and 270 voting cubicles.”

He claimed that security services had already sent personnel to the scene after being alerted to the situation.
