Following an inspection tour to many sites of violations and ongoing drainage enforcement projects in the state’s Ago Palace Way, Isolo, Sangotedo, Lekki, and Ikoyi regions, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, made this announcement.
According to Wahab, the state administration was committed to bringing back normality to the region.

“The days of environmental neglect and annoyance are over in Lagos,” he declared. We will not back down from upholding all pertinent laws, no matter who gets their ox gored.

Lagos has managed to survive despite its unique characteristics as a coastal state with low-lying topography, a dense population, and other issues thanks to a number of government initiatives.

Speaking about the ministry’s stepped-up efforts to enforce drainage laws, Wahab stated: “I tell people that there is a cholera outbreak and that climate change is real. We must know that all these things are interwoven.” As a people, we must all exercise responsibility and responsiveness; people cannot continue to blatantly harm the environment with no repercussions in sight.

“A 48-hour contravention notice has been served to owners of buildings lying within the channels and 14 days abatement and when that elapses the law will take its course,” stated the Commissioner at Sangotedo by Lagos Business School.

“After all notices have expired, we will begin full enforcement with the option of voluntary compliance.

“Lagos has managed to survive despite its unique characteristics as a coastal state with low-lying terrains and a dense population density, among other things, thanks to a number of government initiatives.”
