This announcement was made by the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and is part of the timetable following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to restore constituencies previously suppressed due to court rulings.

The constituencies in Delta are identified as Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II represents Kogi. The bye-elections will occur in Gombe State (Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency), Bauchi (Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies), Delta (Udu State Constituency), and Kano (Dawakin Kudu State Constituency).

The timetable outlines that forms will be available for purchase from August 18 to August 20, with the final submission of completed forms due by August 20. Screening of aspirants along with the announcement of results and appeals is set for August 21, leading up to the primaries on August 22.

Nomination fees are significant, with House of Assembly candidates required to pay N6 million, comprising an N1 million expression of interest fee and a N5 million nomination fee. For House of Representatives candidates, the total fee is N10 million. To encourage participation, female, youth, and physically challenged aspirants will receive a discount, paying only 50% of the nomination fees.

This initiative is vital since the restoration of the constituencies means residents will finally have representation after being without it for years. The bye-elections are particularly noteworthy as they follow the vacancy created in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency due to the death of lawmaker Tongo Yaya, highlighting the urgent need for elected representation in these districts.
