Elected on a platform representing the left-wing Historic Pact party, Ortiz was sworn in as a senator in Bogotá, following her victory in the March elections from the Norte de Santander region. At 33, she transitioned from a career in journalism to the adult film industry in 2017, retiring two years later to pursue a political path.

In her new role, Ortiz aims to secure social security rights for individuals in the adult industry, emphasizing the need for legal protections against exploitation. In a campaign video, she highlighted the lack of state support for those in the adult sector, attributing it to misinformation, prejudice, and societal double standards. She challenges the stigma associated with former adult stars entering politics, referencing similar transitions made by individuals like Ilona Staller, who shifted from adult entertainment to political office.

Ortiz articulates that her experiences provide her with insights into issues of inequality, the struggle for freedom, and the popular economy, which she intends to address in legislative discussions. She argues that while society consumes adult content, it simultaneously restricts those from the industry from participating in positions of power.

The Historic Pact, associated with outgoing president Gustavo Petro, holds a significant presence in the state senate with 25 seats. Ortiz, positioned 23rd on the candidate list, expressed feeling supported by her constituents after her election. Her agenda also includes promoting quality mental health and implementing measures to combat sexual abuse, noting that a significant political transformation is underway, albeit still in its infancy. With the conservative Abelardo de la Espriella set to assume the presidency on August 7, Ortiz’s election marks a notable shift in Colombia’s political landscape.
