This follow-up appointment was confirmed by their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who mentioned that the duo was released after cooperating with investigators on Wednesday. Their initial investigation on June 24 had raised public concern regarding their safety and whereabouts.

According to Effiong, the activists were invited on July 6 for clarification but were unavailable, prompting their legal team to request a rescheduling. They were subsequently able to meet with EFCC investigators on July 15, 2026. After a lengthy interrogation, they were released, having clarified that the funds in question were Props money intended for entertainment purposes and not actual Naira notes.

Despite the stressful situation, Effiong reported that both Peter for Nigeria and Mama Pee remained in good spirits and expressed gratitude for the public concern shown for their safety. He noted that further updates on the investigation would be provided as they become available. On social media, there was speculation about their arrest during their extended stay at the EFCC office, which lasted around 11 hours. Although details regarding the specific allegations against them remain undisclosed by the EFCC, the activists are expected to return soon to continue addressing the matter.
