The former Real Madrid manager, Álvaro Arbeloa, has been appointed as the new head coach of Fulham FC, succeeding Marco Silva, who left to join Benfica. Arbeloa expressed his honor at taking on this role at Fulham, emphasizing his gratitude to chairman Shahid Khan and vice-chairman Tony Khan for their trust in him, particularly in the context of competing in the Premier League. Chairman Shahid Khan noted Arbeloa’s ambition and his extensive experience around elite players and clubs, which he believes will benefit Fulham. He also highlighted Arbeloa’s interest in the academy setup and his commitment to youth development, as well as his intent to adopt a dynamic, attacking style of football.

Arbeloa’s candidacy was backed by positive endorsements from Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, and new manager José Mourinho, under whom Arbeloa played. After leaving Real Madrid at the end of the last season, Arbeloa had a brief stint as interim manager, leading the team for the last 28 fixtures, where they finished second in La Liga but faced elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals by Bayern Munich.

Silva’s departure was unexpected, as he had previously indicated a desire to remain at Fulham after a successful five years. This sudden shift prompted speculation about other candidates, including Thomas Frank from Brentford and Kieran McKenna, who was considered too costly. Arbeloa is also looking to bring in key players from his previous club, including attacking midfielder Franco Mastantuono, full-back Fran Garcia, and forward Gonzalo Garcia, as part of his vision for the team moving forward in the Premier League.
