The government said it learned of the 23-year-old Kharkiv National Medical University graduate’s passing with “profound sadness” in a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
According to the government, Marian “reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.”
The families of the dead and everyone impacted by the tragedy received condolences from the government.
The statement said, “The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigerian community affected by this tragic loss.”
It further stated that in order to support the family and determine the circumstances behind the occurrence, the ministry was already interacting with pertinent authorities and Nigeria’s diplomatic posts.
In order to confirm the incident’s circumstances and give the family the required consular support, the Ministry is in communication with the pertinent authorities as well as Nigeria’s missions in Germany and Ukraine, the statement continued.
Additionally, the administration took the opportunity to express its continued worry about the humanitarian effects of the ongoing violence in Ukraine, specifically the deaths of civilians.
The ministry declared, “The Federal Government of Nigeria renews its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and reiterates its deep concern over the ongoing loss of civilian lives arising from the ongoing conflict.”
It further urged all parties involved in the conflict to pursue peaceful means of resolving their differences. “Nigeria urges all parties to embrace dialogue, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter,” the statement said. The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the welfare and protection of its citizens abroad, assuring that developments would continue to be closely monitored while necessary support is provided through the country’s diplomatic missions.
