Residents said that the attack happened late on Sunday night while everyone in the neighborhood was asleep.
Bokkos resident Malo Bitrus said that the gunmen broke into the town at around 11:40 p.m., firing intermittently and forcing the locals to run for their lives.

He said that more than 19 people had died.  Bokkos Youth Leader Christopher Luka confirmed the event, stating that the attackers broke into the neighborhood and started shooting at locals.

He claims that just after midnight, local youth leaders learned about the attack.   Around twelve in the morning, a youth leader said that gunmen had assaulted the neighborhood and shot multiple people. Nineteen deaths have been verified as far, he stated.

Luka clarified that he informed the security guards stationed in Bokkos as soon as he received the information.
He continued, “I spoke with security officers, and they acknowledged that they had learned about the event and were heading to the impacted community. He urged on security services to step up efforts to stop additional violence and enhance safety for vulnerable groups, characterizing the attack as unprovoked.

The most recent incident happened less than five days after Saf Samuel Alaket, the District Head of Gwande in Bokkos Local Government Area, was killed. Alaket was allegedly attacked while returning from a traditional council meeting along the Sha District axis that borders the Daffo village.   Attempts to get confirmation from Captain Polycarp Oteh, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, and SP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, failed.
