A former Air Canada pilot, Geoffrey Wall, has been charged after allegedly flying without the proper airline transport pilot license from 2009 to 2025. Peel Regional Police reported that Wall operated over 900 flights, both domestically and internationally, misrepresenting his credentials to his employer and regulatory officials, using fraudulent licensing documents. Air Canada acknowledged that although Wall held a valid commercial pilot license, he was wrongfully promoted to captain without the necessary qualifications.

Deputy Police Chief Nick Milinovich drew a parallel to medical malpractice, noting that Wall’s actions were akin to a family medicine doctor performing brain surgery without the necessary training. Upon the discovery of Wall’s lack of appropriate licensing, he was removed from active duty, and Transport Canada was notified, leading to the ongoing investigation. Air Canada stated that the incident did not compromise safety, highlighting their rigorous training protocols that include mandatory recurrent training every six months.

Despite the severity of the allegations, the airline confirmed that an audit found no other pilots in non-compliance, and emphasized the importance of proper licensing in maintaining safety standards. Wall reportedly earned approximately $2.9 million Canadian during his tenure as captain and is accused of filing a false police report regarding stolen pilot documentation. Transport Minister Steve MacKinnon indicated that the federal government would review the case for potential improvements, expressing satisfaction that the issue was detected and addressed by authorities.
