The Federal High Court’s Kano Division’s Justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa passed away. On Thursday night, May 21, the judge reportedly slumped in his living room at home. He was taken to a hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead.

The late jurist was subsequently buried on Friday in accordance with Islamic customs, according to Daily Trust, which cited sources within the Federal High Court in Abuja as confirming the occurrence.

The late Justice Yunusa passed away at the State Medical Center in Kano, according to Catherine Oby Christopher, Director of Information of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, who verified the news.

Justice Yunusa oversaw a number of prominent and politically delicate cases until his passing.

Among the high-profile cases he handled was a lawsuit that surfaced during the 2023 general election regarding the candidacies of Labour Party (LP) members nationwide, including Alex Otti, the governor-elect of Abia State at the time.

Amen. May his soul rest in peace.
