Reacting to a viral claim that Babajide Sanwo-Olu had been asked to step down over health concerns — a claim already dismissed by the Lagos State Government — Rhodes-Vivour took to X on Tuesday with a message filled with urgency and frustration.

He argued that it is wrong for anyone to assume that the power to decide Lagos leadership lies in the hands of a few powerful figures.

According to him, believing that Lagosians have lost control over who governs them — or when such a leader should leave office — is not just incorrect, but deeply disrespectful. He described the idea that one individual or a small group could determine the state’s political direction as unacceptable and something people must begin to reject.

Rhodes-Vivour emphasized that the true authority rests with the people who live and work in Lagos. He insisted that only Lagosians have the right to choose their governor and equally decide when they are no longer satisfied with that leadership.

He painted Lagos as a state too important to be controlled by personal interests, calling instead for a future where leaders are accountable to the people, not to a select few.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, he called for a decisive shift — one that would end what he described as a culture of political imposition and replace it with leadership that truly answers to the people. His message was clear: Lagos must return to the hands of its residents.

The conversation was sparked by rumors suggesting that Governor Sanwo-Olu had been directed to resign due to health reasons. However, the Lagos State Government quickly dismissed the report.

In an official statement released by the governor’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, the claims were described as completely false and misleading.

The government clarified that no such directive was given, affirming that Governor Sanwo-Olu is healthy, mentally sound, and fully committed to his responsibilities.

It was also revealed that the governor recently held a meeting with his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, who formally expressed his intention to run for the governorship.

Officials urged the public to ignore the circulating rumors, labeling them as nothing more than fake news.
