The Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

According to Onasanya, the policies were put in place to lessen the effects of growing gasoline prices and the corresponding rise in living expenses and transportation expenditures.

According to Onasanya, “Gov. Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in Ogun State in order to provide support to the teeming workforce in light of the hike in the country’s fuel pump price and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living.”
“In addition, a special transport allowance of ₦10,000.00 will be paid as palliatives for three months starting in April 2026.”

He continued by saying that it was anticipated that the intervention would both increase productivity and offer relief to workers.

However, the Head of Service pointed out that employees performing vital tasks, such as medical personnel, judges, teachers, security people, and department heads, would not be subject to the weekly day-off schedule but would still be eligible for the transportation allowance.

He clarified that in order to prevent service delivery interruptions, accounting officers in different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will choose the precise day off for qualified employees.

Onasanya asked employees to return the favor with more commitment and productivity, praising the governor for what he called a prompt action.
