In its week 13 report released on Wednesday in Abuja, Naija Street Matters gathered that a total of 3,441,121 registrations had been completed as of April 3. This figure includes both online pre-registrations and physical registrations at designated centres nationwide.
According to the commission, 2,068,384 Nigerians completed their registration online, while 1,372,737 others registered physically.
A breakdown of the data across states shows that Jigawa State recorded the highest number of new voters, with 201,047 registrations, accounting for 5.84 percent of the total. Lagos State followed with 181,095 registrations, while Kano State came third with 177,681.
Young people continue to dominate the registration numbers, with individuals between the ages of 18 and 34 making up 2,354,768 registrants—about 68.43 percent of the total.
In terms of gender, more women registered than men during the period. Female registrants stood at 1,922,143 (55.86 percent), while male registrants were 1,518,978 (44.14 percent).
Looking at occupation, students formed the largest group among the new voters, with 1,235,931 registrations, representing 35.92 percent. This was followed by people engaged in business activities, who accounted for 701,912 registrations (20.40 percent), and those in farming and fishing, with 615,967 (18.28 percent).
The commission also revealed that 48,330 Persons with Disabilities successfully registered within the same period.
INEC, however, noted that the figures are still provisional and subject to review. It explained that a proper data clean-up process will be carried out, including a window for claims and objections, before the final verification using the Automated Biometric Identification System.
The commission also stated that voter registration remains temporarily suspended in the Federal Capital Territory due to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, following the Area Council elections held on February 21.
INEC encouraged all eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of the remaining time by visiting its official registration platforms before the deadline.
