The announcement was made by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who shared the update on X alongside a video.
Akosile described the bridge as a major achievement, stating that the Ojota–Opebi link bridge is ready and will be commissioned by the President. He added that the project represents a key promise fulfilled by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
In a separate statement, the Lagos State Government highlighted the bridge as a significant infrastructure milestone designed to improve connectivity and reduce traffic across the city.
The Opebi–Mende Link Bridge connects Opebi in Ikeja to Mende in Maryland, opening up a new route that is expected to ease congestion around major roads like Allen Avenue, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, and Ikorodu Road.
According to the government, the project will help shorten travel time, reduce daily commuting stress, and improve overall movement for residents in Lagos.
Officials also noted that the bridge reflects strong collaboration between key ministries, especially Transportation and Works, in delivering impactful infrastructure across the state.
The project had been nearing completion for some time. Back in October 2025, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had indicated that the bridge would be ready before the end of the year.
Once inaugurated, the bridge is expected to serve as an important alternative route for motorists, particularly in Ikeja and Maryland, helping to decongest some of Lagos’ busiest traffic corridors.
