Reports indicate that the victim, identified as Special Bensington, was heading to an event with her friend, Divine Anyanwu, using a ride from Bolt when the incident occurred. While on their way along Odili Road, they were allegedly ambushed by armed men believed to have followed them from the hotel where they were picked up.
According to the police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the attackers, who were said to be operating a tricycle, suddenly opened fire on the vehicle. The victim sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
She was rushed to BMH Hospital in Port Harcourt, where doctors later confirmed her death while she was receiving treatment.
Following the incident, officers from the Abuloma Division visited both the crime scene and the hospital as part of initial investigations. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further forensic analysis, while the victim’s body has been placed in the mortuary for an autopsy.
The police condemned the attack and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible. Authorities have also urged members of the public with any useful information to come forward or report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
