Emmanuel Analike, the chief executive officer of the popular movie-download website NetNaija, was arraigned on Thursday before the Federal High Court in Abuja on multiple counts of alleged copyright infringement.

Prosecutors from the Nigerian Copyright Commission told the court that Analike illegally possessed, reproduced, and distributed copyrighted films and music through the NetNaija platform, a site widely used by Nigerians to download entertainment content.

According to court documents, authorities claim the platform enabled large-scale access to pirated movies and music without permission from copyright owners, violating Nigeria’s copyright laws. Analike pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court ordered that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending a ruling on his bail application. The judge is expected to decide on the bail request on March 9.

The case represents one of the most high-profile efforts by the Nigerian Copyright Commission in recent years to clamp down on online piracy platforms, an issue long criticized by filmmakers and music producers seeking stronger protection for their intellectual property.

If convicted, Analike could face fines and possible imprisonment under Nigeria’s copyright laws. The case has been adjourned until the scheduled bail hearing later this week
