Motorists and fuel marketers may soon feel some relief after Dangote Petroleum Refinery cut the ex-depot price of petrol by ₦25 per litre.

The refinery reduced its gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from ₦799 to ₦774 per litre, according to a notice sent to marketers late Tuesday. The new price takes effect immediately.

The adjustment positions Dangote’s petrol below the current estimated landing cost of imported fuel from Lomé, which stands at about ₦793 per litre. With a lower ex-depot price of ₦774, local supply now presents a more attractive option for marketers.

Industry observers say the reduction reflects increasing competition between locally refined fuel and imports, especially as Nigeria continues to reshape its downstream oil market after subsidy reforms.

Whether consumers will see a direct drop at the pump will depend on distribution costs, exchange rates and marketers’ pricing strategies in the days ahead.

The price cut comes as Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote pushes further into African markets.

During a recent visit to Burundi, Dangote met with President Évariste Ndayishimiye to discuss potential investments in solid minerals, power, agriculture, cement production and infrastructure.

“Our focus is investing heavily across Africa,” Dangote said, highlighting the group’s long-term vision for industrial growth on the continent.

Both sides have reportedly set up technical teams to identify priority projects and deepen economic collaboration.

As Africa’s largest refinery continues to scale operations, its pricing decisions are increasingly influencing Nigeria’s fuel market; a sector long dependent on imports.

For now, the latest price cut signals growing market competition and a shifting balance in Nigeria’s energy supply chain.
