Recently, Sola Allyson publicly addressed criticism surrounding her musical identity and lyrical choices during an interview on Oyinmomo TV. The controversy had arisen because listeners expected her songs — often perceived as spiritually-uplifting — to mention Jesus Christ by name. However, Allyson clarified that she has never identified as a gospel singer. She said plainly: “I’m not a religious singer. … My name is Sola Allyson. I am a singer.”

When asked why she doesn’t mention Jesus in her songs, Alison asserted: “Jesus didn’t say we should be mentioning His name. He didn’t say we should use His name for PR.”  Her point is that her music comes from personal conviction and spiritual expression — not from a desire to promote or market religious branding. 

In earlier engagements, when the criticism first flared (around March 2025), she had taken to social media to express her frustration. She challenged those accusing her of insufficient “gospel authenticity”, condemning what she called attempts to “bully… into joining their darkness that looks like light.” 

Beyond music, Sola Allyson also used the Oyinmomo interview to speak about her personal life. She revealed that though she remains legally married to her husband (they married in 2003), the couple now lives separately. She described marriage as a “big challenge,” noting that she has “never experienced joy” in hers.  She emphasised that her separation from her husband is not rooted in hostility but in a deliberate decision to live apart — defining their union as a partnership rather than a traditional ownership-based structure. 

In sum, Sola Allyson’s recent statements challenge conventional expectations about what it means to be a “gospel singer.” She insists on creative freedom: her faith-inspired music does not require constant religious labels or explicit mentions of Jesus to be spiritually meaningful. At the same time, she has opened up about her private life with honesty, debunking assumptions about her marriage’s nature and living arrangement.
