When you truly care about something, whether it’s a goal, a desire, or even a crush, your brain pays attention. That attention is driven by motivation, and it is what allows your mind to grasp knowledge like glue. Scientists also claim that when you’re motivated, your brain produces “feel-good” hormones that help you learn and remember.

Gaining an understanding of this connection can truly shift the game.

  •  Focus improves memory, and motivation helps you concentrate.

Your brain filters out distractions like that loud generator outside and your buzzing phone when you truly want to learn something. Your brain is told, “This is important; keep it,” by focused attention. That’s how memories endure.

  •  Dopamine: The Natural Motivator of the Brain

That thrill you receive while you’re doing something you enjoy? Dopamine is that. It improves your mood and helps you remember things better. Therefore, your brain will retain information better if you make learning, work, or practice enjoyable.

  •  Emotions Help Memories Stick

Moments that touched your heart, such as a birthday surprise, a heartbreak, or a significant victory, are difficult to forget. The same goes for learning. When you relate what you’re learning to actual emotions or personal goals, your brain takes it seriously. For this reason, impassioned teaching or storytelling are effective.

  •  Don’t just do it for the reward; do it because you love it.

There are two kinds of motivation:

Doing something because you truly enjoy it is known as intrinsic motivation.

Extrinsic: doing it for grades, fame, or money.

Both are important, but the first one sustains you through difficult times. The true secret is to love what you do.

  •  Low motivation leads to poor memory.

When you are worried or disinterested, your brain effectively says, “Abeg, skip this.” Too much pressure or insufficient rest might impair memory. That’s why burnout causes you to forget things easily. Your brain needs motivation and equilibrium.

KNOW THIS

Memory and motivation are similar to jollof rice and stew in that one adds flavor and the other keeps it cohesive. Remain motivated if you want to recall more. Your mind will never forget when your heart is involved.
