Jimoh issued the warning on Monday in Lagos while speaking to reporters in the Iyana-Oworo axis of the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to the police chief, the command has deployed large numbers of officers throughout the city to prevent any planned protests that would cause unrest.
He emphasized that the command would not put up with any attempt to obstruct important thoroughfares or disturb the tranquility that Lagos is currently experiencing.
“We wish to caution Sowore and his crew to avoid Lagos or else they would be subject to the full force of the law.
“No one should consider obstructing the Third Mainland Bridge because it is too essential to Nigeria’s economy and the security of people and property.”
“Thousands of people rely on that route every day for both medical emergencies and their livelihood,” he stated.
In order to maintain peace and order, the police chief stated that policemen had been stationed at key locations such as the Third Mainland Bridge, Maryland, Ojota, Gani Fawehinmi Park, Gbagada, Bariga Lekki Toll Gate, and other locations.
He claims that although the Constitution protects the right to free speech and peaceful assembly, protests must adhere to due process and not violate the rights of others.
“Those who want to plan a nonviolent demonstration must adhere to the established protocols.
In recent times, we have witnessed attempts to disturb public order rather than protests. “Those who participate in such activities will face legal consequences,” he declared.
Jimoh defended the government’s recent demolition of Oworonshoki, characterizing the impacted regions as unlawful buildings and criminal hideouts.
Criminals were attacking innocent Nigerians in certain regions.
“The government’s decision to clear them was legitimate. Two days earlier, the media reported and confirmed that genuine residents had received compensation, he claimed.
He warned that the police would not permit anyone to generate chaos under the pretense of protest and accused some people of trying to take advantage of the situation for criminal or political ends.
“Anyone who uses activism as a cover to spread chaos is complicit in a criminal conspiracy; we will not allow that,” he declared.
The commissioner urged law-abiding citizens to go about their everyday lives fearlessly, assuring them of sufficient safety.
“Every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement, safety, and protection.
He declared, “We will continue to ensure that Lagos remains peaceful, but criminality under the guise of protest will not be tolerated.”
