After 27 years in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Lobi Stars FC was demoted last season due to a string of subpar play.
In a statement released Thursday and made available to Makurdi journalists, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor’s chief press secretary, declared the dissolution was approved by the governor.
The club was repositioned for “greater efficiency, accountability, and better performance” in the Nigeria Premier Football League and other tournaments as part of ongoing reforms, according to the statement.
The statement stated that the decision was made in order to realign the club for more effectiveness, responsibility, and improved performance in the Nigeria Premier Football League and other tournaments.
“All members of the dissolved management should hand over all official documents, assets, and responsibilities to the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity with immediate effect,” Governor Alia said.
The governor stated, “The government values the efforts of those who have served the club over the years,” while acknowledging the achievements of the departing management. But now is the moment for a change in approach that aligns with our goals for professionalism and openness in sports management.
Soon, a new management structure will be revealed to propel Lobi Stars into the next stage of expansion and competitiveness.
The next Lobi Stars leadership, he said, “must exhibit competence, passion, and accountability.” Our goal is to create a club that uplifts the Benue people and makes a significant contribution to the state’s sports development plan.
“Sports remain a vital tool for youth engagement, talent discovery, and social cohesion in Benue State,” Alia said, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to promote sports as a vehicle for youth engagement and talent development. Our objective is to establish a setting in which youth may flourish and demonstrate their skills both domestically and globally.
One of Nigeria’s oldest professional football teams was established in 1981 and is called Lobi Stars Football Club.
The Benue State Sports Council founded the team, which was once known as Hawks of Makurdi. Since then, it has developed into a significant figure in Nigerian football.
