The Progressive Governors’ Forum had a two-day summit in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, from October 16–17, 2025, and concluded with the appeal.

Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State and the chairman of the forum, encouraged the university professors to “sheath their swords and return to the dialogue table in the interest of the nation’s education system” in the communiqué that was read following the meeting.

According to him, the gathering serves as a strategic forum for considering Nigeria’s socioeconomic trajectory and reevaluating the roles that states play in promoting national change.
In addition, the forum praised the federal, state, and municipal governments’ cooperation framework, calling it an example of inclusive development and cooperative federalism.

The official welcome of Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, into the APC was one of the meeting’s highlights. Mbah’s defection, according to Uzodimma, was “historic,” bringing the total number of APC governors in the country to 24.
The PGF chairman went on to say, “Governor Mbah’s decision to join our fold validates the strength of the Renewed Hope Agenda and reinforces the party’s national appeal.”

The APC leadership and President Bola Tinubu were also praised by the governors for ushering in “a new era of inclusivity, ideological clarity, and national consolidation.”

They were pleased with the current administration’s continued social intervention programs, infrastructure modernization, power sector stabilization, food security initiatives, and fiscal changes.

According to Uzodimma, the conference took note of the economy’s consistent expansion, falling interest rates and inflation, and increased revenues at all levels of government.

The governors also praised the President’s efforts through the National Economic Council, claiming that they are increasing economic opportunities in all 8,809 electoral wards in Nigeria.

Uzodimma said, “The Progressive Governors’ Forum reaffirms its collective resolve to support all policies and programs under the Renewed Hope Agenda and commends President Tinubu for his foresight.”
