Shortly after the second day of trade discussions between Washington and Beijing began, it pledged another investigation.

Beijing, which declared the probe in December, is presently involved in a fierce struggle with the US for leadership in the vital semiconductor industry.

The State Administration for Market Regulation, Beijing’s leading market watchdog, claimed in a statement that NVIDIA Corporation had broken the Anti-Monopoly Law of the People’s Republic of China after a preliminary inquiry.

Accordingly, the SAMR “has decided to conduct a further investigation into the matter in accordance with the law,” the statement continued.
The statement didn’t go into greater information about the investigation or Nvidia’s potential legal infractions.

Nvidia, a leading AI company located in California, released financial results last month that sparked questions about its operations in China.
Washington is paying more attention to this company as trade and geopolitical tensions rise.

In an effort to reduce disagreements on a number of topics that have strained relations, officials in Madrid started a second day of bilateral trade discussions about an hour before the SAMR statement.
