Security analyst Zagazola Makama stated on Friday that the suspects were captured when the baby’s mother, Justina Valentine Boniface, 19, of Aningeje village, raised an alarm.
According to Boniface, she registered for prenatal treatment at the Primary Health Centre in Aningeje, where she gave birth to a boy on August 12, 2025.
She said that two on-duty nurses, Obi Mary Baken, 38, and Ndifon Nelly Ekpu, 45, plotted to abduct the baby while she slept the night after giving birth.
She claims that the nurses informed her that the child had died and was buried inside the facility, but she later found out this was untrue and called the police.
According to police, the two nurses were taken into custody after confessing to selling the infant to a bidder who was also taken into custody: W/Sgt. Aisha Yakubu, a current Nigerian Army soldier.
The police also stated that they were working to recover the infant and apprehend the last person who had received the stolen child.
