Dino melaye announced his immediate departure from all party activities in a resignation letter posted on his official X account on Thursday, July 4, 2025, sent to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. “I hereby submit my resignation from all positions within the People’s Democratic Party.”

The letter partially stated, “This decision has become imperative due to the party’s lack of potency and capacity to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.” Melaye, who previously ran as the PDP’s candidate for governor of Kogi State in 2023, claimed that his choice was the result of careful consideration of the party’s present situation and future direction. After giving careful thought to the party’s current situation, I am unable to continue supporting her agenda or taking part in party events in a morally acceptable manner,” the letter went on. Additionally, he asked that his resignation be interpreted as an official and complete disengagement from all tiers and institutions of the party.

Given the foregoing, you take this as my official resignation from the party and all of its operations at all levels, effective immediately,” the letter continued.

During his final remarks, Melaye conveyed his appreciation for the chance to serve under the party’s program while he was a member. The letter ended, “Thank you for giving me the chance to serve under the platform during my membership period.”
