Tragedy in Ondo: NDLEA Officer Killed in Deadly Drug Raid

The NDLEA team set out that morning with purpose in their hearts and duty on their shoulders. Acting on credible intelligence, they moved carefully into Ogbese, a quiet town in Ondo State, hoping to shut down yet another illegal drug operation. They expected pushback—most raids come with tension—but nothing could have prepared them for the violent ambush that lay in wait.

An NDLEA officer was shot dead during a heated confrontation with suspected drug dealers in Ogbese, Ondo State, turning what began as a normal anti-drug operation into a bloody event.

He was shot at close range by some of the alleged drug traffickers who emerged from their hiding place and started shooting. He was taken to the hospital right away, but upon arrival, the attending physicians declared him dead. It was an extremely depressing event, which also injured others.

The narcotics dealers must have also learned that the police were planning to search their hiding place.

In addition to confirming the attack, the NDLEA expressed their profound sadness for the loss and reaffirmed their resolve to eradicate drug-related crime in Nigeria.

Ayanlade Olayinka, a spokesman for the state police command, commented on the incident, saying: “As soon as it occurred, we sent more officers to the scene. Four suspects have been taken into custody by us.

Investigation is underway to bring culprits to justice, with a single barrel gun recovered. Officer’s remains are deposited at hospital morgue, and killers will face full law enforcement.
