Multiple sources state that Janne Andersson, a former coach for Sweden, is the front-runner to take over as Nigeria’s next coach after Finidi George abruptly resigned in June. The 61-year-old Andersson was unable to get his nation into the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 European Championship.
As Andersson gained prominence as the Nigeria Football Federation’s chosen candidate, Bosso and Ilechukwu were also suggested as possible aides to him.
Bosso, the new coach of Bayelsa United, who has managed the Flying Eagles on several occasions, denied the rumors., “As far as I am concerned, all these are fabrications and propaganda by people.”
The decision-makers would definitely call me if something similar occurred. I’ve never seen assistant coaches appointed before head coaches, and no one in the NFL has contacted me. From my perspective, it’s just rumors.
“I never can figure out what’s happening. As a coach, I’m willing to make a positive contribution to the national team. I will be there if they call, but for now I’m concentrating on the NPFL, the CAF Champions League, and the Enugu Rangers.
Bosso was employed by the Flying Eagles until recently, but Ilechukwu has experience working for the national team as well; in 2022, he was selected to be Salisu Yusuf’s assistant for the national U-23 squad.
After moving from Plateau United to Enugu Rangers for the 2016–17 season, he helped the Flying Antelopes win their eighth league championship and first since 2016.
