As the protests in the North, which has been severely hit by bandit and terrorist assaults, worsened, the governors of the states that were impacted were forced to take drastic action.
In an effort to stop the rising violence, Jos North Local administration was placed under a 24-hour curfew on Sunday night by Caleb Mutfwang, the Plateau State administration.
The demonstration was peacefully started by former Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung and General Overseer of Evangelical Outreach (EBOMI), Isa El-Buba, National Coordinator of the Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN).
They had even received praise from the state authorities for their nonviolent protest.
However, on Sunday, while the first set was taking a break, an odd bunch of protestors emerged in various places of Jos North, and things went wrong.
The latter group started shooting and waving Russian flags.
The new aggressive group roamed from street to street, robbing people of their possessions, while the original group met every day at Jos’ Old Airport Roundabout.
They overran Bauchi Road in the surrounding areas of Angwan Rogo, Congo Russia, Filling Ball, Sabon Layi, Dilimi, and Zololo.

The governor reported that these criminals “broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons.”
He issued a dire warning to anyone preparing to terrorize innocent bystanders: stop right away or risk facing the full force of the law.

Yesterday, Governor Mutfwang also called a security council meeting. Following the meeting, Emmanuel Adesina, the Commissioner of Police, announced that 14 people had been taken into custody for curfew violations.
El-Buba criticized the curfew, saying it was an attempt to silence the voices of the people.

The Kaduna and Zaria metropolises were placed under a 24-hour curfew by the state government, following a rampage of looting by demonstrators who had regrouped in Kaduna yesterday.
Waving Russian flags, the demonstrators marched down Kaduna’s and Zaria’s main streets.
Once they began stealing both public and private goods, they were scattered about the NEPA Roundabout.
They damaged property at the Nagwamatse House offices of Vision FM and AIT.
Samuel Aruwan, the overseeing commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, declared the curfew in a statement, claiming that criminal elements had taken over the protest.
After assessing the state’s security condition, the Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, hereby informs the public of the following:
“There is enough evidence to show unequivocally that criminal forces have taken over the demonstration and are stealing stores and destroying both public and private property.
“The Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously decided to impose an immediate 24-hour curfew on the metropolises of Kaduna and Zaria, in light of this regrettable development.
While security personnel continue to preserve safety and security, citizens are advised to stay indoors.
“Watching will continue for any necessary curfew review,” he declared.
In addition to enforcing a 24-hour curfew in Katagum LGA, Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed set fire to the council secretariat and the former deputy governor’s house.
It came after theft, vandalism of public property, and violent acts.
The country house of Senator Baba Tela, the immediate past deputy governor, and the government lodge were vandalized by some thugs in Azare in Katagum LGA.
They burned down the secretariat of the local government.
The governor’s order is stated in a statement made by Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, the Secretary to the State Government.
He gave the go-ahead for all security services to move quickly to resolve the issue, capture the guilty parties, and prosecute them.
The governor also urged law-abiding people to assist with security measures.
