In a phone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, the command’s public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, said that Lekan Akinyemi, the suspect, was taken into custody on Monday following a resident’s report to the police of suspicious activity near his father’s grave.
The inhabitant, Nojeem Balogun, revealed that when he looked at his father’s tomb, he saw that his father’s corpse had been severed in the head.
Odutola revealed that Adatan Division agents swiftly took action and detained Akinyemi after learning of the situation.
“Nojeem Balogun, residing around Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, visited the police station and reported that one of his siblings alerted him about unusual activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta, on June 23, 2024, at about 0800hrs,” the statement reads.He examined and discovered that their father’s head had been cut off by an unknown person or gang. After more investigation, Lekan Akinyemi was identified as the person who dug up the grave and chopped off the head. He was apprehended on suspicion.
“Lekan Akinyemi was observed in the act, and the case will be forwarded to the State CID for further investigation after being turned over to the Anti-Robbery unit.”
The PPRO further stated that after the current investigation is finished, the suspect would face legal action.
She did, however, reassure the state’s citizens of the command’s dedication to fighting crime and criminality.
