Seun was apprehended in the early hours of Monday, May 15, 2023, when he turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in the company of his attorney and family representative, according to a statement released by Benjamin Hundeyin, the liaison for the Lagos State Police on Twitter.
“SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: SEUN KUTI TURNS SELF IN,” the announcement states. Seun Kuti, an afrobeat singer, surrendered to police this morning at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja while accompanied by his attorney and a member of his family. He has been detained in accordance with the law.
The public’s concerns are appreciated, and the Command assures them that the continuing inquiry will be thorough, open, and professionally conducted. It also promises that justice will be clearly served for all persons involved.
As you may recall, Seun’s detention was reportedly ordered by IGP Usman Alkali Baba after a video of the musician beating a police officer appeared online.
