This decision, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, follows the Constitutional Amendment Bill forwarded by the National Assembly. In the session, the Speaker presented a cover letter from the National Assembly’s Clerk along with the bill outlining necessary constitutional changes to establish the State Police force.
During the plenary, all proposed constitutional amendments were read and received unanimous approval from the members, marking a significant move to bolster the country’s security framework and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security initiatives. Amaewhule emphasized that the votes and proceedings regarding the establishment of State Police have been formally adopted as an official document for the House. Furthermore, it was noted that the House of Assembly will relay their decision to the National Assembly via an official communication.
