The structure showed signs of instability, prompting workers to evacuate the site after warnings from bystanders who noticed unusual movements. Eyewitness Bello Shehu, a carpenter, recounted his experience on the upper floor before leaving for prayers; he emphasized that the collapse occurred merely 15 minutes later.

The incident activated an immediate response from various agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigeria Police Force, and fire services, among others. DSP Ahmad Rufae, the Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries reported, which was reiterated by Alhaji Tukur Abubakar, Head of NEMA Operations in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states. He stated that emergency responders acted swiftly to secure the area and avert further risks.

The project’s owner, businessman Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, expressed regret over the incident but was thankful that no lives were lost. This event highlights crucial concerns regarding construction safety and regulatory oversight in building projects in the region.
