This operation, which took place in Oyo Town, led to the recovery of goods valued at approximately N32 million and the arrest of two suspects: Olawale Kareem, 40, and Ogunbiyi Monday, 46.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspects were apprehended in connection with the diversion of an IVECO truck/trailer, bearing the registration number MUS 809 XY from Lagos, which was loaded with 570 bags of guinea corn. These goods were allegedly hijacked while en route from Kaduna State. Preliminary investigations have revealed that both suspects are part of a larger syndicate engaged in this criminal activity for financial gain.

The police emphasized their commitment to intelligence-led policing aimed at dismantling criminal networks that threaten the economic security of the region. They confirmed that the suspects admitted their involvement in the crime during interrogation. Authorities are actively pursuing other members of the syndicate and seeking to recover any additional stolen goods linked to their operations.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, praised the officers’ swift and professional response to actionable intelligence, reinforcing the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives, property, and economic activities throughout Oyo State. He also issued a stern warning to those engaged in economic sabotage and other criminal actions, urging them to cease their activities or face legal consequences. The command has called on transporters, logistics operators, and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to ensure that criminal elements are not allowed to operate freely within the state.
