- Tinubu media centre posts AI image of Remi Tinubu selling akara
This post came shortly after her remarks on micro-enterprises, which had sparked significant backlash on social media. The image, featured on the official social media accounts of the presidency, portrays Oluremi Tinubu at a roadside akara stand, wearing an apron that reads, “Iya Alakara, fueling the nation with love.”
During an interview, Senator Tinubu asserted that small-scale businesses like akara frying, corn roasting, and kuli kuli production require minimal start-up capital. She emphasized that the Federal Government is assisting these initiatives through grants rather than loans as a part of its strategy to enhance livelihoods. “We’re trying to give hope, and starting an akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn, or even kuli kuli, doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan; we gave it to them as a grant,” she stated.

Her statements triggered a spectrum of reactions from the public, with many accusing her of insensitivity to Nigeria’s economic struggles, while others praised her for identifying accessible business opportunities. The AI-generated image has further intensified the online discussion, with supporters viewing it as a light-hearted retort to critics and detractors arguing that it trivializes the economic hardships faced by numerous Nigerians.
On social media platform X, user @Top_GunM expressed disappointment over the portrayal of the First Lady, lamenting, “Warra country. It’s so unfortunate. This is meant to be the wife of the president of the most populous black nation in the world and this is what she’s being reduced to.” Another user, tweeting as #mizmuchstella, criticized the presidency’s media team, asserting that, “Whoever is the handler of this account should be sacked. Your job is to position this government as good, but it is obvious you have no basic knowledge of your job.”
