Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde provided a detailed update regarding the ongoing efforts to rescue schoolchildren and teachers abducted by suspected bandits in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities within the Oriire Local Government Area. In his recent Newsletter No. 140, he confirmed that the victims remain located within the Old Oyo National Park, a challenging terrain comprising around 2,500 square kilometers across ten local government areas.

It has been 27 days since the abduction, which involved coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, on May 15, 2026. The governor recognized the significant distress and uncertainty faced by the families and communities affected by this incident. He reiterated his commitment to the rescue efforts, emphasizing that the state government and security agencies are actively pursuing all credible leads and employing all lawful measures for the safe return of the abductees.

Makinde acknowledged the operational difficulties posed by the vast and complex landscape of the Old Oyo National Park, which necessitates strategic coordination and sustained efforts from security personnel. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities via the state’s toll-free Citizens Enquiry Number, 615, asserting that all credible claims would be promptly addressed.

Furthermore, he cautioned against the spread of unverified information regarding the kidnapping incidents, which might threaten the security operations. The governor called on the community to support security agencies with valuable information and to keep the abducted individuals in their prayers as the mission for their safe recovery intensifies.
