Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said fan support could be a key factor in deciding the Premier League title race, calling on Arsenal F.C. supporters to stand firmly behind their team during a challenging period.
That defeat came shortly after another 2-1 loss at home to AFC Bournemouth, where some fans reacted by booing the players off the pitch.
Rooney criticised that response, warning it could negatively affect the team at such a crucial stage of the season.
“I think the Arsenal fans need to do better. They’ve been fantastic all season but are just going through a slight dip in form,” he said.
He stressed that players draw significant motivation from supporters, especially during tough moments.
“Fans need to realise how important their support is and the impact it has. When players are booed after a loss, it can affect them,” Rooney added.
Despite the recent setbacks, Arsenal are still in the title race with five matches remaining, though pressure continues to mount from Manchester City, who could move ahead at the top.
Rooney highlighted the need for unity between fans and players, particularly given Arsenal’s history of narrowly missing out in previous title challenges.
“For Arsenal to win the league, the fans must play their role. They need to support the players more because moments like that will definitely affect them,” he said.
