The 26-year-old verified the news on social media by sharing a picture of himself cuddling his infant with the message, “Best gift ever.” He had been noticeably absent from Nigeria’s first training session following the team’s 2-1 victory against Iran.

In early March, Fontes, a Portuguese content developer who has known Onyemaechi since his time at Boavista, announced the pregnancy on social media by posting pictures of her growing baby bulge.

Although the baby’s gender has not been made public, she posted pictures from the hospital on Saturday to confirm the baby’s arrival.
The official Super Eagles X account wrote, “Congratulations to Bruno Onyemaechi and his partner on the birth of their first child.” Congratulations are already flooding in.

Onyemaechi’s participation versus Jordan is doubtful because players are usually allowed to take a few days off from camp after giving birth.

Coach Eric Chelle has enough left-back backup, though, with Zaidu Sanusi fit and ready to step in if the Olympiacos player is unable to return in time.
